Program Description: 

What started as a strategic initiative within Gallagher’s Houston, Texas office has now developed into an industry leading leadership development and mentorship program! We’ll recount the story of how the program began, the impact it has had on employee engagement and retention, and discuss how to start a mentorship program within your organization.

Learning Objectives for this program:

  • Understand the impact of mentoring on employee engagement and retention
  • Identify the key components of starting a mentorship program and considerations moving forward


Speaker Information: 

Roxanne Reyna

Roxanne joined the Gallagher Benefits Services South Central Regional team in September 2012, bringing with her more than 17 years of comprehensive experience in all areas of human resources. In 2018, Roxanne was promoted to Director of Organizational Development and Effectiveness for the Gallagher Benefits Services division where her focus is talent management and succession planning, leadership development, efforts to mitigate the impact of workforce generational changes, as well as early career and high potential employee development.

Prior to Gallagher, Roxanne worked for Baylor College of Medicine where she served as the Human Resources Manager for the Human Genome Sequencing Center for ten years.

Roxanne is known for building strong strategic relationships and maximizing performance of individuals, teams and organizational leaders. She has a proven ability to collaborate with the leaders of the organization for which she supports and integrating the human resources functions into the overall business operating strategy.

Roxanne graduated from St. Edward’s University in Austin and received her MBA from the University of Houston. She is also certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR). She is a native Houstonian and lives in Houston with her two children. Roxanne is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) organization, and in her spare time, she loves to run, travel, and spend time with her family and friends

Mariela Smith

Mariela Smith joined Gallagher in February of 2012. She began her career in the Health & Wellness industry in 2004. Mariela Smith serves as one of the Human Resources Consultants for the Gallagher Houston office.

Mariela’s background in wellbeing and engagement coupled with 15 years of experience provide her with the fundamental skills needed to develop and execute effective employee engagement strategies.

Her ingenuity and passion for client excellence enable her to communicate effectively and develop strong partnerships while maximizing performance of key talent and leaders across diverse organizations.

Mariela graduated from Texas A&M University, with a bachelor’s degree in Health Education, and received a master’s degree in Health Administration from Capella University. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist by the National Commission for Health Education. Mariela’s experience and strong sense of client focus give her the tools to find the best engagement strategy for each unique employee population.

Kendle Nelson

Kendle Nelson began her career in the insurance industry in November 2008 and joined the Gallagher Benefit Services Houston team in March 2011 in Account Management. In July of 2013, Kendle transitioned to a regional role as Resource Manager and later moved to Operations.

Kendle is involved in many different operational tasks on a day-to-day basis. A few of her focuses are merger partner due diligence and integration, professional standards, real estate changes, Internship program, etc. Her mature and thoughtful approach to multitasking and constant change is one of her strong suits that make her a fit for the Operations team.

In addition, Kendle is also a co-lead of the Growing Gallagher Greats (G3) program. G3 is a 2-year mentorship program designed to grow key talent into tomorrow’s leaders by investing in their personal and professional development through an assigned mentor, stretch assignments, development planning, and leadership development in the form of small group interactive training.

Kendle graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. She currently lives in Houston with her husband, son, and daughter. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, and anything outdoors in her spare time.
