February Chapter Meeting

Bring your Training to Life with Video

Program Description:

Why use video as part of your content delivery strategy?

The primary reason people learn well via video is that the human brain processes videos 60,000 times faster than text, according to a Psychology Today article, “Video vs. Text: The Brain Perspective.”

In addition:

  • Video is more persuasive compared to other content types.
  • Video addresses visual, reading, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles.
  • Video supportson-demand, bite-sized microlearning that teaches in the moment of need.

Video is becoming a ubiquitous learning method for people of all ages to learn and is preferred by nearly all of Gen Z. While it’s not always top of mind with business leaders and, at times, training specialists, it should be!

In this workshop, participants will first identify objections L&D partners hear and how to overcome them. Then, once we have our internal or external customers on board, they’ll learn how to prioritize training content that returns the highest ROI from training video development. Finally, participants will explore options for training video content creation to engage and maximize training results.

A light breakfast will be available.

Learning Objectives for this program:

  • Identify advantages to incorporating video in content delivery
  • Identify objections and tactics for overcoming them
  • Explore options for content creation and use

Karen Hughey has been in Human Resources and Learning and Development for over 20 years. In 2008, while leading the Optium RX L&D team, the team had to make their lengthy, non-engaging, expensive onboarding and ongoing training more effective. So the team introduced training videos before anyone thought to go to YouTube to learn to do or fix anything. As a result, they reduced training time and cost by up to 75% and improved learning outcomes. Today, Karen’s team at Nucleus Training Solutions brings large company training best practices for Career Path Design and associated L&D program creation to mid-sized companies that don’t have internal L&D teams.
