The Intersection of L&D and D&I 


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Learning and Development professionals often collaborate with other HR colleagues, but Diversity and Inclusion teams (if present) are typically separate functions and not inherently expected to intersect. Similarly, L&D is rarely the first thing that comes up when talking about D&I. Few executives expect L&D developers to be trailblazers in advocating diverse values and ingraining inclusion and equity into their function. However, results show that D&I should interconnect with everything that happens in the workplace instead of being turned into initiatives operating in silos and the responsibility of only a few within the company. Every department can and should contribute to inclusive leadership practices that foster an inclusive culture; including L&D. This session will discuss how L&D and D&I intersect and why L&D professionals should be prioritizing inclusive values for all employees.

SPEAKER BIO

As the former Global Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Kristen Harris  spearheaded the creation and execution of a business-integrated DEI strategy for Hallmark Cards, Hallmark Media, and Crayola. The comprehensive roadmap encompassed all aspects of employee experience, recruiting, talent development, product development, marketing, content programming, customer engagement, community engagement and philanthropy.

As a certified DEI practitioner, Kristen now engages with organizations as an independent consultant. She provides thought leadership to boards and executives and enjoys guest speaking on topics such as employee experience and engagement, leadership development and DEI.

Passionate about community advocacy, Kristen is a board director and volunteers with multiple organizations in the KC Metro area focused on education, health services and economic development.
