The Creative Touch: Enhancing eLearning with “Creative” expertise (Perspective from “content creators” - people who have transitioned into eLearning)”

Program Description:

Have you ever watched a training video and been so bored that you couldn’t make it through or pay attention?

This is where creativity meets learning. Being able to come up with creative solutions to keep an audience engaged and excited about learning can make all the difference.

Hear from Garney Construction’s content development team on how they integrate creativity into training and development content.

Garney’s content development department is filled with creatives that come from diverse creative backgrounds. Everything from running a production company to working on film sets, music videos and as a professional dancer. They bring their unique expertise to the learning and development space to create engaging and impactful training content.

Speaker Information:

Jessica Ferrell

Jessica manages the Content Development department at Garney Construction. Prior to working at Garney, her experience includes running a successful production company, working as a freelance cinematographer and presenting at international conferences for gender and equality on topics relating to communication and psychology. When she came to Garney, she had the opportunity to start and develop the Content Development department from the ground up. Her team creates educational content to support the company’s overall training initiatives, as well as marketing campaigns that support the financial and recruiting goals, of Garney. Making the switch from a creative production company to an in-house department has allowed for the opportunity to combine her passions for creativity, education and psychology to create engaging and impactful content.

Joshua Velazquez

Joshua Velazquez is a Content Development Producer with Garney Construction. Born and raised in Joplin, Missouri playing football, running track, and being outdoors he soon realized creativity was a huge part of who he was. Joshua attended Pittsburg State University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City as a dual major in the Conservatory of Dance and Computer Science. He left to take on a job with the professional contemporary ballet company Missouri Contemporary Ballet. After retiring from his dance career, he has had the opportunity to combine his passion for creativity and technology while working with an in-house content development department.

Tanner Davis

Tanner Davis is a Content Development Producer with Garney Construction. After earning a degree in Mass Media/Digital Film Production in 2015, he spent 5 years collaborating on a variety of productions as a videographer and editor in the Greater Kansas City Area. His passion for cinematography and post-production editing naturally meets a defined purpose: to create.

Turning what was once a hobby into what is now a career brings him an overwhelming amount of joy. With Garney having an in-house content development team, he is able to continually work towards perfecting his craft.

Christian McKeown

Christian McKeown is a Mexico, Missouri native with a passion for visual storytelling, the outdoors, and soccer. Christian first got into filmmaking at a young age with his older brother and their family’s old video camera. His enthusiasm for making videos grew throughout his time playing semi-pro soccer overseas in England at Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy in Leeds, Yorkshire. After graduating in 2018, Christian worked as a videographer in the Marketing Department at Benedictine College while studying for a Master of Business Administration. During that time Christian also worked as a freelance videographer filming weddings and interned with a Denver based production company the summer of 2019. Christian graduated with his MBA in May of 2020 and now works as a Content Development Producer for Kansas City based Garney Construction.
